Morning Blessings
Birchat Hashahar
Jewish Law / Halacha ↗️
Immediately upon awakening, recite:
I give thanks before You eternal and living King who returns my soul within me with mercy. Great is Your faithfulness.
After washing the hands, recite:
Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, Who has made us holy through His commandments, and has commanded us about washing hands.
Every time one attends to his bodily functions, he should wash and dry his hands and then recite:
Blessed are You, Adonai, our God, King of the universe, Who created man with wisdom, and created within him various openings and various cavities. It is obvious and known before Your Heavenly Throne that should any one of them become obstructed or should any of them break open it would be impossible to remain alive for even a short while. Blessed are You, Adonai, Who heals all flesh and does wondrous things.
Pause momentarily, and proceed to recite:
My God, the soul You have placed within me is pure. You created it, You fashioned it. You breathed it into me, You safeguard it within me, and eventually You will take it from me,and restore it to me in Time to Come. As long as the soul it within me, I gratefully thank You, LORD, my God and the God of my forefathers, Master of all works, Lord of all souls. Blessed are You, LORD, who restores souls to all.
Blessed are You, Adonai, our God, King of the universe, Who gives the rooster the understanding to distinguish between day and night.
Blessed are You, Adonai, our God, King of the universe, Who gives sight to the blind.
Blessed are You, Adonai, our God, King of the universe, Who releases those who are bound.
Blessed are You, Adonai, our God, King of the universe, Who stands upright those who are bent over.
Blessed are You, Adonai, our God, King of the universe, Who clothes the naked.
Blessed are You, Adonai, our God, King of the universe, Who gives strength to the weary.
Blessed are You, Adonai, our God, King of the universe, Who spreads the earth over the waters.
Blessed are You, Adonai, our God, King of the universe, Who provides for the footsteps of man.
Blessed are You, Adonai, our God, King of the universe, Who has provided me with all my needs.
Blessed are You, Adonai, our God, King of the universe, Who girds Israel with might.
Blessed are You, Adonai, our God, King of the universe, Who crowns Israel with splendor.
Blessed are You, Adonai, our God, King of the universe, Who did not make me a gentile.
Blessed are You, Adonai, our God, King of the universe, Who did not make me a slave.
Blessed are You, Adonai, our God, King of the universe, Who did not make me a woman. (Woman recites: Blessed [is He], Who made me according to His will.)
Blessed are You, Adonai, our God, King of the universe, Who removes the bonds of sleep from my eyes, and slumber from my eyelids.
May it be Your will, Adonai, my God, God of my forefathers, that You accustom me in Your Torah and make me cleave to Your commandments. Do not bring me to sin, nor to iniquity, nor to be tested, nor to shame. Distance me from the evil inclination and make me cleave to the good inclination. (Force my inclination to be subservient to You.) Grant me today, as well as every day, to [find] grace, kindness and compassion in Your eyes, and in the eyes of all who see me, and grant me good kindnesses. Blessed are You, Adonai, Who bestows good kindnesses, to His nation, Israel. May it be Your will, Adonai, my God, God of my forefathers, that You spare me today and every day from the impudent, from impudence, from an evil man, [from an evil woman,] from the evil inclination, from a bad friend, from a bad neighbor, from any mishap, from the evil eye, from slanderous talk, [from informants, from false testimony, from the hatred of people, from libel, from unusual death, from serious illness, from harmful occurrences,] from unpleasant litigation, and from a troublesome adversary – whether he be a Jew or whether he not be a Jew [and from the judgment of Gehinnom].
Blessings of the Torah
Blessed are You, Adonai, our God, King of the universe, Who has sanctified us with His commandments, and has commanded us concerning the words of the Torah.
Make the teachings of Your Torah, Adonai, pleasant in our mouths and in the mouths of Your nation, the House of Israel. May we and our children, and the children of our children, all of us be those who know Your Name and study Your Torah for its own sake. Blessed are You, Adonai, Who teaches Torah to His people Israel.
Blessed are You, Adonai, our God, King of the universe, Who chose us from among all the nations, and gave us His Torah. Blessed are You, Adonai, Who gives the Torah.
Adonai spoke to Moshe, saying: Speak to Aharon and his sons, saying: So shall you bless the children of Israel – say to them: “May Adonai bless you and watch over you. May Adonai illuminate His countenance for you and be gracious to you. May Adonai turn His countenance toward you and establish peace for you.” They shall place My Name upon the children of Israel, and I will bless them.
